Condolence books open across Telford and Wrekin

Telford and Wrekin residents wanting to share their sympathy, feelings and memories of HM The Queen can do so in Condolence books, open now across the borough.

Books are open from 1pm today at Southwater, Wellington, Newport, and Oakengates libraries, and can be signed during normal library opening hours and also this Saturday and Sunday between 10am until 3pm

Anyone wishing to lay floral tributes are welcome to do so at flower locations close to the condolence books at libraries. People are respectfully asked to unwrap any cellophane, plastic or paper from the floral tributes and place these in nearby litter bins.

Flowers left in other public places may be moved to the main tribute locations.

For more information, please visit the Council’s memorial page at https://apps.telford.gov.uk/queen/which includes details of events taking place later this week too.

Red Extreme Heat Warning

The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for much of England. The Government has issued some heat-health-related advice which is available on the Gov UK website.

Reminder of heat-health advice

Everyone can help to avoid heat-related illness by:

  • staying hydrated with plenty of fluids
  • finding a cool living or workspace
  • avoiding strenuous or extreme activities
  • staying out of the sun at peak times
  • wearing a sunhat and sunglasses, and applying plenty of sun-cream when outside.

If you or someone else feels unwell with a high temperature during hot weather, it may be heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Find out the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and when to get help.
