Solisco Wins OLEV & Innovate UK Competition

BTC tenants Solisco have announced success in a competition that will secure funding for an exciting new project.

Solisco are a start-up company founded in 2016, with a mission to inspire and support the emerging Clean Energy and Electric Vehicle market with innovative solutions that harness the power of the sun.

Being early adopters of both Solar Photovoltaics (PV) and Electric Vehicles (EV), the Founders of Solisco are incredibly passionate about making a difference so that everyone can enjoy the true freedom that comes with renewable energy and zero emission vehicles.

They plan to use this opportunity to explore feasibility for EV charging infrastructure in an innovative and holistic way; incorporating clean technology with smart systems. Solisco’s projects create a fantastic collaboration between consortium partners – West Midlands Combined Authority, Keele University, Ecuity LLP, Mennekes/Driveenergy Ltd, EVBox and EnergiMine.

CEO of Solisco, Parveen Begum said: “We are very excited to get our project off the ground and confident, along with our consortium partners, that we will achieve some great results and insights to share with you early next year!”

Scanning Pens Receive Visit from MP

Lucy Allan, the Member of Parliament for Telford, recently paid a visit to Business and Technology Centre tenant Scanning Pens Ltd to meet staff and discover more about their range of assistive technology devices.

Scanning Pens is the global distributor for the C-Pen. The C-Pen ReaderPen, ExamReader and DictionaryPen’s are pocket-sized devices that read text out loud aiming to promote independent reading and learning.

As a leading Assistive Technology supplier, they combine their expert knowledge with years of experience in the dyslexia field to develop solutions for many educational institutions helping students with reading difficulties such as dyslexia, visual impairment, physical disabilities and much more.

Lucy Allan, a member of the Education Select Committee said: “I was so pleased to visit Scanning Pens and listen to how the pens have supported and transformed many young people who face daily reading challenges. Too many people struggle with literacy problems throughout their lives and this is a fantastic tool to enable them to overcome these difficulties.”

Land Referencing Services Celebrate 10 Years

Land Referencing Services who started at the Business and Technology Centre’s sister building, the e-innovation Centre, with just two people and now have a team of over 45, are now celebrating ten years of the company.

They have gone from strength to strength in that time and can now say that they are the largest, dedicated land referencing specialists in the UK and are still housed at BTC.

Directors Parma Kataria and Martin Glover said of the milestone: “We started LRS with the aim to always deliver the highest standards and we are happy to still be achieving this, 10 years on.While the years have gone by quickly and we have loved every minute, there are even more exciting times ahead as more expansion and new challenges appear. We are really lucky to have great staff, great customers and be working on the UK’s premier projects including Rail, Nuclear Highways, Power, Ports, Regeneration, Airports and communications. This year we have gone through a particularly high level of expansion and it’s great to see the business flourishing”
